Week 1 Kit Introduction and Activity Video (Grades 3-5)

In this video, we’ll look at the contents of our kit, set up for planting and plant our seeds.

Week 2 Kit Plant Life Cycle (Grades 3-5)

In this video, we observe the seeds we planted and learn about the plant life cycle.

Week 3 Kit Plant Parts (Grades 3-5)

In this video, we’ll observe our sprouts and learn about the parts of a plant.

Week 4 Kit Photosynthesis (Grades 3-5)

In this video, we’ll observe our seedlings and learn about the important role of the leaves (photosynthesis).

Week 5 Kit Compost (Grades 3-5)

In this video, we’ll observe our plants and learn how to make compost.

Week 6 Kit Plant and Soil Observations (Grades 3-5)

In this video, we’ll be making observations of our plants and our compost bags, and learning a little more about decomposition (soil food web).

Week 7 Kit Pollination (Grades 3-5)

In this video, we’ll observe our plants and how much they’ve grown during the program, and we’ll learn about pollination.

Week 8 Kit Project Closing (Grades 3-5)

This is our last week of the Grow Kit project! In this video, we complete our observation chart and look back on what we’ve learned.

After the Kit Project: Transplant & Harvest

Now that the Grow Kit project is over, what do you do with the plant or two that you kept? Watch this video to learn how to transplant and harvest from your plants!

What is Soil? (3-5)

Healthy soil is essential for the survival of plants. Soil is composed of minerals, water, air and organic matter. High quality, balanced soil allows the plant to intake the ideal quantity of water.

Plant Life Cycle (3-5)

We’ll learn more about the 6 stages of a plant life cycle and understand how seeds are dispersed. And we’ll learn different ways for plants to reproduce other than through seeds.

Plant Parts (3-5)

All plants have the same main parts but there is much diversity when it comes to shape, size and color; this is because the plants and plant parts are specifically adapted to the environment in which they live.

Photosynthesis (3-5)

Through photosynthesis, plants and animals, including humans, play mutually beneficial roles in one another’s lives.

Compost (3-5)

Compost is our natural recycling system. Decomposers are essential for breaking down large organic matter in our soil.
The recipe for compost includes “greens” and “browns”.

Soil Food Web (3-5)

In this lesson weʻll learn:
To identify the various roles of organisms within the food web and gain an understanding of how energy chains function in our soil.

Pollination (3-5)

The process of pollination is critical to the continuation of the plant lifecycle; learn how it happens and the special adaptations plants and animals have made to survive.

Butterfly Life Cycle

Watch the process of metamorphosis take place as a fritillary butterfly goes through its life cycle. This video was originally made for grades K-2, but watching the process of metamorphosis is amazing at any age!

Erosion (3-5)

Topsoil is a necessity to life on the plant. Plants play a crucial role in creating and protecting topsoil by minimizing erosion and increasing water absorption of our soil.
