Students will learn about the patterns and designs of nature that help plants to grow and thrive! We'll explore the art of seeds, use our senses to experience nature, and come to see how everything is connected, all while learning from the plants we grow. At the end of the project, students have the opportunity to donate their plants back to their Maui community.

Students will learn about how the food we eat has powerful effects on us and the world we live in. It is our hope that this project will help prepare students to make sound food choices and to consider the significance of how the food we eat affects the health of our bodies, the community and the planet.

Kumu Mea Kanu: Hawaiiana Kit (Grades 4-5)

The goal of this project is for students to have an experience growing plants that will enable a deeper connection with their local food system and the ʻāina that supports it. They will learn about the ecological history and status of the islands, traditions of past and present, and growing plants in a way that is in union with nature.
